Soulsa ® is a portmanteau comprising the terms soul and salsa – soul acting as the representation of any beat or rhythm of Black origin while salsa serves to encapsulate the sonic essence of the Latin diaspora. Inspired by the spirit of 60s and 70s Spanish Harlem and in existence since 2005, the Soulsa ® brand is the brainchild of DJ, promoter, events manager, music industry all-rounder and self-confessed vinyl junkie Mr Boogie.

Born in cosmopolitan Paris and of Ugandan heritage, Mr Boogie was never going to be the type of person who just played any old record. Having spent his formative years split between France and West Africa, he moved to the UK just before his teens and set about putting his burgeoning love for music to good use. A keen traveller with a penchant for a dusty basement or two, Mr Boogie took full advantage of frequent stopovers in cities such as New York, Havana, Lagos and Buenos Aires to dig deep into the vast history of Afro Latin music and beyond.

As his record collection grew, augmented by a catalogue of classic and contemporary jazz, funk, soul, disco and tropical rhythms, he sought to perfect his craft in public, and soon began spinning weekly at Bar Rumba's much-loved Tuesday Salsa Sessions. Before long, he found himself deejaying at legendary London venues such as Jazz Cafe, Plastic People and Passing Clouds.

Since then, Mr Boogie has made his own distinctive mark on the city's underground scene via Melting Pot - his long-running music show - and two regular live jazz events he currently oversees: Grass Roots and Jazz Juice. He also promotes Deep & Dope - a periodic party experience - alongside Montréal-based soulful house sensation JaBig and veteran London DJ Stuart Patterson.  Additionally, Mr Boogie has shared the decks with the likes of Theo Parrish, Phil Asher, Gilles Peterson, Femi Fem and Floating Points to name a few.

With such an amiable personality and a bag full of top-notch tunes, his name is never too far away from major functions in London, New York and further afield. He has featured at the London Jazz Festival, the London Latin American Film Festival, the UK film premiere for Soul Power, BBC Radio 1’s Hackney Weekend, the London Design Festival, every edition of the BST Hyde Park Festival since 2017, the FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium and various events in the Big Apple commemorating hip-hop's 50th anniversary.

When he’s not behind the turntables, Mr Boogie busies himself managing DASP – a DJ-led non-profit initiative conceived to support the fight against homelessness.
